改訂版 TOEFL Official Guide（6th Edition）の変更点詳細 その1「試験概要」

改訂版 Official Guideでの大まかな変更点については3日前に書いた以下のブログ記事でお伝えしましたが

今後、3-4回に渡って改訂版（6th Edition）で変更された点について書いていきます。

ただ今回の改訂は、昨年8月のTOEFL試験の新形式への変更を受けてのものなので、問題数減少およびそれに伴う試験時間短縮に関わる記述については特には触れません。
新形式移行での変化を知らないというい方は、以下をご確認ください。

また細かな表現の変更や、TOEFL受験者にとって重要ではない情報の追加については触れません。

これから書いていく改訂版OGの変更点の詳細を確認いただければ、旧版OG（5th Edition）を持っている人は、改訂版を購入する必要はありません。

今回は「1. About the TOEFL iBT Test」（改訂版：pp. 1-36、旧版：pp. 1-36）での変更点、追加された説明を取り上げます。
以下のページ表記は、改訂版のページを示しますが、範囲がともに36ページであることから分かるように、旧版でも基本的に同じページ番号。

1. About the TOEFL iBT Test

p. 5 All about the TOEFL iBT Test, “Format”

試験形式の説明において、改訂版では以下の文が追加されました。

・In the Listening and Speaking sections, you may hear some native English-speaker accents that are not from North America, such as British or Australian. To hear samples, visit www.ets.org/toefl/ibt/about/content/.

問題音声は北米のアクセントだけではなく、イギリスやオーストラリアのアクセントで読まれる場合もあるよ、とのことですが、実際のところほぼ北米アクセントと言えます。
イギリスやオーストラリアのアクセントの問題が出題された場合でも、クセの強いアクセントはないので、心配は不要です。
以下は、公式サイトの TOEFL iBT Listening Section のページでのアクセントの説明と、リンク先はUKアクセントで読み上げられた例。教授はマイルドなUKアクセントですが、教授に質問してくる生徒たちは北米アクセントのままです。

Accents

The Listening section includes native-speaker English accents from North America, the U.K., New Zealand or Australia to better reflect the variety of accents you might encounter while studying abroad. For example, listen to this talk about the greenhouse effect (MP3). The lecturer is from the U.K.

・For the Speaking and Writing responses, ETS uses both certified human raters and artificial intelligence (AI) scoring to provide a complete and accurate picture of a test taker’s ability.

Writingセクションのスコア算出におけるAI（eRater）の活用は何年も前から行われていますが、昨年8月からSpeakingセクションのスコア算出においてもAI（SpeachRater）が組み込まれるようになりました。しかしながらどのように組み込まれているのかは公表されていません。

・After finishing the test, test takers will be able to view their unofficial scaled scores for the Reading and Listening sections. Scoring of the Speaking and Writing sections takes place only after the test administration and cannot be provided in real time.

ここではReadingとListeningのスコアが試験終了直後にPC画面に表示されることを伝えています。
“unofficial scaled scores” と言っていますが、このときのReading、Listeningのスコアがそのまま1週間後に公式スコアになります。

p. 9 Reading Section, “Features”

・Some table questions are worth up to 2 points and others are worth up to 3 points, …

table questionsとはFill in a Table Qs「表完成問題」のこと。
表完成問題は以前は3ポイントだったのですが、新形式では2 or 3ポイントで出題されるとのこと。
この点に関しては次回のReading Sectionの回で詳しく説明します。

p. 21 About Test Scores, “Rating of Speaking and Writing Responses”

・Responses to all four Speaking tasks are digitally recorded and sent to ETS. The responses from each test takers are scored by four different certified raters and the automated scoring system.

Speakingのスコア算出にAIが組み込まれるようになったことは先ほどお伝えしましたが、ここでは「4つの回答に対して、4人別々の採点官がスコアを付ける」と書かれています。
ちなみに以前は6つの回答に対して、3-6人の採点官がスコアをつけたので、採点官が同じ受験者の2つの回答（Task 1 & 2など）を採点する可能性がありました。
（ただ実際のところ、その可能性は非常に低かったであろうと推測しますが。Writingの採点では、採点官は1日中、IntegratedまたはIndependentいずれかの採点を担当します。まれにIntegratedまたはIndependentの採点の担当分が終了したときに、別のタスクの採点に移ることがありますが。Speakingにおいても一つのタスクの採点をずっと担当するはずです。）

p. 23 About Test Scores, “My Best Scores”

・Approximately six days after your test date, you will receive an e-mail letting you know that your scores are available in your TOEFL iBT online account. Within two days after your scores are available, you will also be able to download and print a PDF copy of your score report from your account.

土日に会場受験をした場合、スコアは金曜日に確認できるのが通常ですが、PDFのスコア表はスコアが出てから2日以内にスコアを表示するページからダウンロードできるようになるとのこと。

以上、改訂版OGのTOEFL iBTテスト概要を伝える箇所での、変更点/追加された点を伝えました。
